Open letter to J.K. Rowling

Good morning Joanne,

First, let me start this letter by thanking you for bringing the world of Harry Potter to life.  It is through you that my daughter developed a love of reading.  She read HP and the Sorcerers Stone, at the age of seven, in one weekend.  Her desire to read grew from there.  For that, I thank you.

However, that is not the reason I am writing this letter. I may get slaughtered by Potterheads for what I'm about to say but so be it.  I've been doing some research on your "Twitter" persona and goodness, you are just downright bitter and cruel aren't you?  What happened to "taking the high road" in the eyes of liberals everywhere?  I never felt a need to write to you, or any celebrity for that fact, until I read the nastiness you tweeted to a fan about already having their money so they can borrow a lighter.  Is that what you have sunk to, Joanne?  Is that all Harry has become to you?  A dollar sign?  Is Harry's world no longer personal to you but just a means to an end?  From the tone of that tweet, it appears that is the case.  It appears that your fans no longer mean much to you and they are no longer important.  I'm not sure you quite understand your importance to those folks.  People who grew up with Harry and his story.  People who look up to you.  When you spout off your political views, you are bursting their bubble a bit.  Yes, you are entitled to your views, your thoughts, your opinions.  As long as you and I live in a free world, we are given the right to express those views, thoughts and opinions.  But, and this is a big one so I hope you will take this to heart, with your "celebrity" status, you are held to a higher esteem, for lack of a better phrase.  People look up to you.  People who adore you.   When you snark back with a truly belittling tweet, don't you think that you have taken the lowest road possible?  Yes, burning your books (or any books for that matter) and DVD's is childish, but that person had the right to express their displeasure.  Just as you had the right to express your views of the immigration situation going on here in America.  But, that fan's heart felt displeasure did not give you the right to open up on them and be a jerk.   Your tweet tells me that Harry is no longer your baby.  Your tweet tells that Harry is just dollar signs to you now.  Your tweet tells that fans are nothing more than idiotic people who foolishly fill your bank account.

Joanne, I want to stop here and make a point about President Trump's executive order.  It is temporary.  The definition of that word is "lasting for only a limited period of time, not permanent".  As a writer, I hope you would know what that definition is.  I implore you to actually go read the order.  It is on the White House website.  You pride yourself on research.  You did plenty of it with the Harry Potter world.  Why would you not do the very same thing for reality?  Is a fantasy land more important in your mind than the reality that people truly live?  You do not have to like the President of the United States.   I do not like the Queen of England.  I think she is nothing more than a figurehead, should have been de-throned years ago and Brits are fools for keeping her and the royal family living a lavish lifestyle while you have citizens living in the streets and dying.  See how that works, Joanne?  I can express my views without truly doing research on the British Monarchy and I'm sure I struck a bad chord with you in regard to your Queen.  Same goes for the man who is running my country. I don't have to like him to give the office he holds the respect it deserves and is entitled to.   However, unlike the Brits, we Americans get to change out our leadership every four years.  Yes, you have a prime minister but in the eyes of America, you are ruled by the Queen.

Your tweets are the lowest road you can take, Joanne.  You have a right to make them and you are applauded by many for your snarky and sometimes cruel retort.  Just understand, the people who you are being snarky to have gotten you to the place you are at right now.  Without them,  you would still be living in a small flat & surviving on state welfare.  See Joanne?  I do my research also.

A President-elect, an awards show and Hollywood elite

By now we have all seen the headlines.  From Facebook to MSN to CNN.  It's everywhere.  Meryl Streep chose the Golden Globes as her moment to be political and "attack" Donald Trump.  Good grief...here we go again.  Now, before I write this, a little caveat that must be known and understood, I am not a Trumpeteer.  I am not a supporter of Trump.  I am not on the Trump Train.  I am now and will always be an American.  Something many folks in this country have failed to remember that is what they are also.

Let's breakdown some of her quotes shall we?

1"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts,"

She is kidding right?  Mr. Trump is not saying all immigrants are to be deported.  He is stating ILLEGALS are to be deported.  There is a vast difference between folks who immigrated to this country the proper way and those who refuse to acknowledge the laws of this nation.  As for nothing to watch if Hollywood isn't around?  Well that is narcissism at it's finest.  Ms. Streep...you need to understand something...we don't live for Hollywood.   In fact, Hollywood lives because of us.  WE are the very reason you have a job.  Why you live as an elite and wealthy woman.  Why you are given praises and awards.  WE are the very reason you get to stand up on a stage and accept an award for being really good at pretending to be someone you aren't.  As for me, I have no use for Hollywood and very seldom watch TV or go to the movies.  It's a waste of time and money.   Saying that we will have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts?  How about alientating and pissing off many folks who do believe MMA is a true art form?  I would love to see her get into a cage and do so with grace and not get the living daylight beat out of her.  There is more to do than watch football or pay exorbitant movie prices.  Has she ever heard of books?  Crafting?  Games?  Oh..and here is a good one...spending time with family?  Ms. Streep, get over yourself and the Hollywood garbage.  Life would go on without you.

2. "When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose"

No kidding lady.  That is precisely what the policians have been doing for decades.  It is what every person holding office does only they are much less brazen about it.  Even Ms. Streep is using her celebrity to "bully" folks into thinking the way she does.  She did that very thing back in 1991 with the apple industry and the Alar scare.  Folks lost their farms because of it.  Even if they did not use the chemical on their orchards, Ms. Streep and her "the sky is falling" words destroyed farms that were in business for generations.  Folks in the apple industry lost their jobs.  Why?  Because this woman chose her status to bully people into not buying apples because they were "bad" for them.  I worked for a major apple processing plant at the time and I remember it very clearly.  So yes, Ms. Streep, powerful people use their position to bully others.  You have done that in your past and continue to do so today.

What Hollywood folks have failed to understand is this...they work for us.  Without us, they do not have jobs.  It's as simple as that.  Under no circumstance should the "elite" (I hate that because they are not above me or anyone else in this country.) tell folks (real folks who actually work for a living and live from paycheck to paycheck.  Folks who know the reality of life, unlike the Hollywood pretenders) what to think and how to be.  What Hollywood folks need to do is stop the divisivness and encouraging the division of this country.  What about that young man in Chicago who was kidnapped and tortured for days all because he was white and mentally challenged?  Where is the outcry for him?  *crickets*  There isn't any.  Why?  Because it isn't in the Hollywood liberal agenda.  It just doesn't fit into their "save this country from the brutal white man" ignorance.

All races face brutality.  It is not just one, Ms. Streep.  All sexes are abused and treated as less than.  All mentalities are mocked and treated as sub-human.  I've worked with the mentally/physically handicapped.  I've seen how they are made fun of.  I've seen how blacks are singled out.  I've heard whites be called evil names all because they lack pigment in their skin.  I've seen the profiling.  I'm not stupid nor am I ignorant of the vile things that happen in this country.  But I say this with respect...how dare you spew your hatred, your vitriol, your agenda when you know NOTHING of this country and what truly happens.   You scream that Mr. Trump spews rhetoric.  Well, I can and will accuse you of the very same thing.   That is all your speech was last night.  Nothing but rhetoric and dividing this country even further.  Stirring the pot to bring about more divisivness.  You do not want unity in the United States of America.  You have proven that with your Hollywood voice.  Get off of your pedestal, Meryl.  Become an American, work in the trenches, live off of $45/month for food to feed two people, live in a 1973 mobile home, shop at thrift stores because that is all you can afford.  Just stop with your "holier than thou" "I'm an actress so I'm better than you" garbage because lady...the real folks of this country, not just those on the right but I'm sure some on the left, are utterly, completely and absolutely fed up with it.  When did you lose your humanity and become a narcissistic robot?  Find your heart for all.  Not just who you deem worthy.  Until then, you mean nothing more to anyone but an actress who makes a living being something you are not.
